What we cover in this week’s recap:

🗞️News:

Deep Analysis publishes ‘Intelligent Document Processing Market Analysis 2025-2028’ (and celebrates its 9th anniversary)

Analyst firm Deep Analysis has published its latest report titled ‘Intelligent Document Processing Market Analysis 2025-2028: IDP At The Crossroads’. In this 62-page report, Deep Analysis provides a comprehensive look into the IDP software market, forecasts its size and growth over the next four years, shares key findings from a recent survey of 57 IDP companies on their biggest growth challenges, their revenue growth targets, their use of AI agents and their vertical market focus. Dan Lucarini, Senior Analyst at Deep Analysis, stated: “This is the most important report we’ve ever done on the sector.” According to the analyst firm, “IDP stands at the crossroads, facing potential disruptions from three trends”: 1. everyone is talking about AI agents, but are they friend or foe for IDP? 2. what’s the real impact of Generative AI? An assessment two years in. 3. IDP functionality is everywhere – what does this mean for the future of the market? Nonetheless, Deep Analysis’ key takeaway from the report is: “The market is expanding and will see double-digit growth through 2028.” On another note: Deep Analysis is also celebrating its 9th anniversary. Congrats on that! Alan Pelz-Sharpe, Founder and Principal Analyst, looks back at some of the highlights, including the transformation that document processing has undergone: “In November 2018, Amazon quietly released a product called Textract, and it took us a lot of time and effort to get a briefing and meet with its creators. The reason being the folks at AWS didn’t think it was a big deal and couldn’t fathom why any analyst firm would be interested (in fairness, none of the other analyst firms were interested). But we were very interested. We thought that if AWS could release a commodity-based, easy-to-access, AI-driven OCR service, then the sleepy document processing world was in for a big change. We were right. After 20-plus years of little change, a market dominated by a handful of legacy capture vendors is now a vibrant and thriving market of over 400. Indeed, IDP, led by Dan Lucarini, is now a cornerstone of our research and advisory practice. Yet, when we published our first report on Textract, the response to it was universal: Textract isn’t good enough, nobody is interested, it doesn’t change a thing.”

Rossum launches specialist AI agents for transactional documents to automate enterprise paperwork

Intelligent Document Processing vendor Rossum has announced that it has launched specialist AI agents for transactional documents such as invoices and purchase orders to automate paperwork and accelerate process automation while ensuring compliance. A set of four new capabilities enables business users to easily configure and deploy AI agents for paperwork: procedures and actions (the ability to perform actions consistently and in accordance with existing SOPs), reasoning (allowing AI agents to infer new data not explicitly mentioned in documents), datasets (improved integration with enterprise master data to understand the full context of the business transaction), and business & operational insights (enhancing its existing ‘Reporting & Insights’ capabilities to provide business users with better insight into AI agent performance and actionable business intelligence). Petr Baudiš, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Rossum, explained: “Enterprise paperwork processes are inherently complex because they’re designed to keep businesses safe. While generalist AI agents may seem like an appealing shortcut, they lack the specific skills, domain expertise, and guardrails needed to handle these workflows reliably. Specialist AI agents in Rossum are purpose-built for handling transactional paperwork like invoices and purchase orders, ensuring they process these documents with the speed and precision that our customers expect.” Dan Lucarini, Senior Analyst at Deep Analysis, wrote: “AI Agents to do your paperwork are finally here. Chapeau to the Rossum team for launching a useful AI Agent solution that any business or government office can find immediate value from. This type of “utility” is exactly what we think GenAI and LLMs need, to move out of the realm of fairy dust magic tricks and become indispensable business tools.” Along with the launch, Tomas Gogar, Co-Founder and CEO of Rossum, sat down with Dan Lucarini.
